A new video series from the North American Council for Freight Efficiency features fleets using natural gas, hydrogen fuel cells, and battery-electric trucks participating in its Run on Less – Messy Middle.
Run on Less – Messy Middle will take place from September 8-26 and track trucks running on a variety of fuels, including diesel, renewable diesel, biodiesel, renewable natural gas, battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell.
Ahead of the September event, NACFE is posting fleet profiles on the 13 participants. The first three are now live:
Wegman’s operation in Rochester, New York, with a Peterbilt 567 day cab with a Cummins X15N engine using natural gas.
Pilot Travel Centers’ operation in Rialto, California, with a Hyundai Xcient hydrogen fuel cell day cab tractor.
Saia’s operation in Stockton, California, with a battery-electric Tesla Semi day cab tractor.
Each fleet has its own profile page. These feature videos from visits to fleet locations by NACFE staff, driver introductions, details on the truck being followed during the run, and fueling/charging details unique to each truck.
“We plan to post three profiles with videos per week highlighting each of the 13 fleets throughout August,” said Mike Roeth, NACFE’s executive director, in a news release.
“Each fleet was unique, and we encourage you to review the profiles and watch all the videos to gain a better understanding of how fleets are making these powertrain solutions work today in their businesses.”
Here is a rundown of the remaining nine fleet profiles:
4Gen out of Rialto, California, operating a Volvo VNR day cab battery-electric tractor
Nevoya out of Colton, California, operating a battery-electric Freightliner eCascadia day cab tractor
UPS out of Salt Lake City operating a Kenworth T680 day cab tractor with a Cummins X15N engine using natural gas
Albert Transport out of Laredo, Texas, operating a highly efficient 2022 Freightliner Cascadia sleeper tractor with a Detroit DD15 engine running on diesel
JoyRide Logistics out of Phoenix operating a battery-electric Windrose sleeper tractor
Penske Logistics out of Lancaster, Texas, operating a Hyundai Xcient hydrogen fuel cell day cab tractor
Frito-Lay out of Topeka, Kansas, operating a Volvo VNL sleeper tractor with an Optimus Technologies system using B99 biodiesel
Schneider out of Phoenix, operating an International LT with International's S13 engine running on renewable diesel
Kleysen Group Ltd. out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, operating a Kenworth T880 sleeper tractor with a Cummins X15N using natural gas
Mesilla Valley Transportation out of El Paso, Texas, operating an International LT sleeper tractor with a Cummins X15 engine running on diesel.
The run is made possible through sponsorships with Cummins and Shell as title sponsors, as well as a host of companies that are event and supporter sponsors, including Geotab, NACFE’s official data partner for the Run.
“The Run is an enormous undertaking and we still are seeking sponsors to help us ensure the Run is a success,” Roeth says.
