Volvo Trucks North America has made several changes to its D13 engine to meet EPA 2027 emissions requirements while maintaining performance and fuel economy.
In this video, Duane Tegels, powertrain product marketing manager for Volvo Trucks North America, walks HDT through the updated engine. He explains its new high-pressure common-rail fuel system, 48-volt aftertreatment components, turbocharger, and other changes.
The D13 will be offered with ratings from 405 to 540 hp and up to 1,950 lb.-ft. of torque. Volvo says fleets moving from its current variable-geometry turbo engine could see about a 4% fuel-economy improvement. And watch out for that brake horsepower!
