New York has updated its list of trucks that are eligible under its Voucher Incentive Program, a $19 million “first come, first served” program that aims to accelerate the deployment of alternative fuel vehicles and diesel emission control devices for medium to heavy duty commercial fleets in the state.

By promoting the use of advanced vehicle technologies, the New York Trucks VIP will help reduce diesel emissions and promote a more fuel independent state, according to the program’s website.

"New York customers are already seeing the benefits of our 195h diesel electric COE vehicles realizing up to 30% fuel savings over diesel-only products in well matched conditions," said Glenn Ellis, Hino Trucks vice president of marketing. "By utilizing the NYT-VIP, customers can realize an immediate payback on the incremental cost of our hybrid truck, and start to see operational savings on day one."

Hino’s 195h and 195h-DC diesel electric cab-over has been approved for the program. A list of all eligible vehicles is on the program’s website, that includes such makers as Daimler Trucks North America, Isuzu, Peterbilt and Volvo.

Vendors/dealers that market and sell alternative fuel vehicles and diesel emission control devices can apply for a voucher incentive to reduce the cost to the purchaser. Once the buyer receives the new vehicle or diesel emission control devices at the discounted rate, the vendor/dealer will be reimbursed the full voucher amount.

The NYT-VIP is partnership between the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, the New York State Department of Transportation, the New York City Department of Transportation, and CALSTART, a group of more than 140 firms, fleets and agencies dedicated to supporting “clean transportation” technology.
