Continental Introduces New Regional Truck Tires
Continental says its new Generation 5 steer and drive tires for regional operations offer longer tread life, with estimated mileage gains of 22% and 19%, respectively.

The Conti HSR 5 EP features a new five-rib tread pattern and optimized footprint design engineered to improve wear performance and promote more even tread wear. The Conti HDR 5 EP is designed to provide strong traction, durability and long tread life in demanding regional applications.

Continental has introduced two regional-haul truck tires designed to improve mileage, fuel efficiency and casing durability: the Conti HSR 5 EP steer tire and Conti HDR 5 EP drive tire.
The tires are the latest additions to Continental’s Generation 5 regional-haul lineup. They are designed for routes with frequent starts and stops, urban and suburban driving, and varying road conditions.
Both tires will be available beginning in October 2026, with additional sizes planned throughout 2027.
Steer Tire Targets More Even Wear
The Conti HSR 5 EP features a new five-rib tread pattern and a footprint designed to promote more even tread wear.
Continental estimates the steer tire will deliver 22% more mileage than its predecessor. Its Generation 5 tread compound is also designed to maintain low rolling resistance to support fuel efficiency.
Drive Tire Adds Casing Protection
The Conti HDR 5 EP drive tire features an open-shoulder tread design, increased resistance to stone trapping, and improved cut-and-chip protection. Those features are intended to protect the casing and improve its potential for retreading.
Continental estimates a 19% improvement in removal mileage compared with the previous tire, while maintaining rolling resistance performance that supports fuel savings. Removal mileage is the distance a tire runs before it is taken out of service.
“Regional fleets continue to face mounting pressure to improve operating efficiency while controlling costs,” said Shaun Uys, Continental’s vice president of marketing and sales for U.S. truck tires.
Continental said both tires use tread compounds designed to balance mileage and rolling resistance, with casing durability intended to support retreading and lower fleets’ cost per mile.
