According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), as of Aug. 5, 2019, average on-highway diesel prices in the U.S. were $3.03 per gallon, down slighly from last week and down $0.19 from same time last year. This marks the fourth straight week that diesel price averages have fallen.
Based on the EIA's historical data, diesel prices have been above $3 per gallon since mid-February, with Feb. 11 showing the last reported price below the $3 threshold, and that dip only reaching from the week of Jan. 14 through Feb. 11. The last time diesel dipped below $3 before February 2019 was in early 2018.
