Whether or not we will ever share the road with truly driverless trucks is a story for another day. But Daimler Trucks North America brought that possibility a little closer to reality with the debut of the Inspiration Truck, which allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel and feet off the pedals under the right conditions.
Freightliner invited journalists from around the world to the Nevada Desert, teasing the Inspiration Truck with an announcement that Nevada has become the first state to license such vehicles for operation on highways, before finally revealing the vehicle on the Hoover Dam. Though a human still sat in the driver's seat, the truck did the work itself. Is this the future of transportation or just the future of cruise control?
