Continental is introducing new 19.5-inch rim size drive and steer tires, developed with the needs of Class 4 and 5 vehicles in mind, to its truck tire portfolio. The new tires, part of the Generation 5 product line, are intelligent-tire ready and come with matching retread.

The Conti HSR 5 and Conti HDR 5 tires were developed in Fort Mill, South Carolina, produced in Mount Vernon, Illinois, and tested in the company’s Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas.

Designed specifically for Class 4 and 5 vehicles, Continental said these tires should fit various vehicles and meet the needs of different vocations.

Most commonly the Class 4 and 5 vehicle market is made up of ambulances, large recreational trucks, utilities, and last-mile delivery vehicles. The Conti HSR 5 and Conti HDR 5 were designed for vehicles traveling on highways and urban roads in all types of climates.

Both tires are for regional applications and deliver improved rolling resistance and durability, according to Continental. They are Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified (3PMSF) and have been selected by Ford in the 19.5-inch size as the OE fitments for its new 2024 Ford F450 and F550.

The Conti HSR 5 is a regional, all-position tire that has full-width siping for improved traction and handling during the life of the tire.

The Conti HDR 5 is a regional drive tire with a new open shoulder tread pattern. It also features 3D-matrix siping for improved traction and wear over the life of the tire. The tire is available in 225/70R19.5, load range G, at a 16/32-inch tread depth.

Intelligent Tire Capability

Continental said its new tires offer cradle-to-grave solutions. The Conti HDR 5 and Conti HSR 5 come with matching retreads to extend the life of the tires and each tire can also come from the Continental Plant as an intelligent tire, equipped with Gen2 sensors.

Continental’s digital monitoring system, ContiConnect, allows fleets to monitor the health of their tires from the road, anytime, anywhere, or every night upon returning to the fleet's yard. Since many of these vehicles work in environments that take them to construction sites and off-road situations monitoring a tire’s health informs if there is a nail in the tire and then preventing downtime, Continental said.

“The new Gen5 tires set a new bar in performance for our customers and their fleets. With intelligent tire capabilities fleet owners can monitor the life of their tires each time the fleet returns to the yard with ContiConnect Yard or from the road with ContiConnect Live,” said Shaun Uys, head of U.S. market truck tire replacement for Continental.

General Tire 19.5-inch Tires

In addition to the Conti HSR 5 and Conti HDR 5, Continental also recently released two new 19.5s to its General Tire lineup.

The General RA 2 is a regional all-position tire for regional and urban applications. The RA 2 features a closed-shoulder tread pattern that provides even wear and reduced noise.

The General RD 2 is a regional drive tire used for regional/urban applications. The RD 2 has an aggressive tread design to deliver traction in any weather condition.

Additional 19.5-inch Tires

In addition to the Conti HSR 5 and Conti HDR 5 tires, Continental has a complete lineup of 19.5-inch tires that range from regional tires made for wintry conditions to off-road tires and super regional tires. These tires include the Conti Hybrid HD3, Conti Hybrid HS3, Conti Hybrid HT3, Conti Scandinavia HD3, and Conti Terra HD3.
