Dragonfly Smart Battery Tech for APUs Gives Drivers Peace of Mind

Electric auxiliary power units have often frustrated truck drivers because they are unable to provide power and HVAC to the truck cab for the full 10-hour rest period. Dragonfly Energy says it has a solution with the ability to monitor the batteries in real time.
Dragonfly Energy Holdings, which makes Battle Born batteries, now offers Dragonfly IntelLigence technology for the heavy-duty trucking industry.
This patent-pending smart battery technology gives fleets and truck drivers real-time system monitoring and full visibility of their battery system.
This new, advanced smart lithium solution provides a powerful addition to the company’s award-winning Battle Born All-Electric Auxiliary Power Unit, according to the company.

By combining a wireless mesh network with Bluetooth connectivity, the Battle Born mobile app can be used to monitor battery life, set custom alerts, and access historical usage data.

“The integration of our patented Dragonfly IntelLigence technology marks a significant advancement for our APU solution,” said Wade Seaburg, chief revenue officer of Dragonfly Energy.
“This upgrade gives drivers comprehensive visibility over their battery system so they can rest easy knowing the battery won’t drain nor the truck restart while they are trying to sleep.”
Dragonfly IntelLigence communication technology gives drivers and fleets real-time insights into their entire battery system, at both the individual battery level and the system as a whole.

The new technology allows a richer, deeper level of integration with the chassis, “delivering more information to the fleet than they’ve ever had on how their auxiliary power is being handled,” explained Seaburg.
By combining a wireless mesh network with Bluetooth connectivity, the Battle Born mobile app can be used to monitor battery life, set custom alerts, and access historical usage data.
Using the Battle Born app, Seaburg said, “You’ll be able to see what the state of charge is. That driver, while he’s in the cab, before he lays his head on the pillow, he’ll know, ‘I have enough power to make it through all 10 hours. And I’m not going to get interrupted, my CPAP machine isn’t going to glitch out on me because of low voltage, my refrigerated goods are going to be just fine in my refrigerator.’”

From the fleet managers’ perspective, the system offers information on the performance of the batteries over their lifetime.
“They can manipulate that data whatever way they want to be able to digest it.”
This comprehensive connectivity is unique to Dragonfly Energy’s system, according to the company.
The Battle Born All-Electric APU, equipped with Dragonfly IntelLigence as an optional upgrade, is available now.
