The walkout is due to a dispute over a labor contract for workers at the facility. Other ports along the East Coast and Gulf Coast have not been affected. Earlier this year a new master contract was approved for East Coast and Gulf Coast port longshoremen.
A total of about 1,000 workers are on strike with the ILA, along with those from three other unions representing port workers.
Longshoremen have filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board while employers claim strikers are violating a “no-strike” clause in the master contract.
According to an interview with the Maryland Port Authority by WJZ-TV, the Port of Baltimore leads the nation in total exports and imports of automobiles.
An arbitration meeting between the ILA local and employers was set for Friday.
