The nation’s retailers expect sales in the months of November and December to increase 3.9% to $602.1 billion over 2012’s actual 3.5% holiday season sales growth. The forecast is higher than the 10-year average holiday sales growth of 3.3%.
The Truckload Carriers Association has announced the name of its latest Highway Angel: David Kus of Fredericksburg, Penn., who drives for Swift Transportation. Kus is being recognized for acting quickly when a fellow motorist had an accident and then inadvertently put himself in more danger.
On Oct. 15, CRST Expedited Inc., the largest operating company of CRST International Inc., will begin delivering a pay increase of $10 million over the next 12 months to its drivers, according to the company.
Caltrans has finished rebuilding 90 miles of I-80 between Auburn and the Nevada state line, infrastructure improvements that included rebuilding seven bridges, improving lighting and drainage and adding new traffic monitoring systems.
While natural gas has pushed its way to center stage in the alternative fuels discussion, the investment in equipment and infrastructure make it less than appealing to many fleets. However, anyone who is currently running on diesel fuel can easily switch to a greener alternative without that type of up-front investment. They simply have to fill up their fuel tank with biodiesel.
