Back on the rise again, the national average diesel fuel price hit $3.04 in April, 9 cents per gallon higher than March and 49 cents higher than same time last year, according to WEX. In the past year, July of 2017 saw the lowest per gallon diesel prices at $2.46.
Current trends show a continued increase in diesel fuel prices. The Energy Information Administration (EIA), in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, projects that the national average retail cost of on-highway diesel, including tax, will average $3.13 for the second quarter, up 6.7% from the forecast made a month earlier and 9 cents higher than prices in April.
