HDT provides a monthly recall roundup featuring heavy-duty truck and trailer recalls announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Below are the recalls from October 2023. NHTSA recalls address safety risks, and vehicle owners must have safety defects repaired by dealers at no cost to prevent potential injuries or fatalities.

Mack Trucks Recalls

  • Vehicles: 2024 LR.

  • Potential Units Affected: 47.

  • Component: Power steering.

  • Breakdown: The fasteners that connect the power steering assist cylinder to steering arm may be loose or missing.

  • Solution: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the repair has been performed. Dealers will inspect and tighten the steering gear fasteners and install a new cotter pin.

  • Vehicles:

    • 2024 Anthem.

    • 2024 Pinnacle.

  • Potential Units Affected: 13.

  • Component: Electronic stability control system.

  • Breakdown: A software programming error may cause the electronic stability control to be inoperative.

  • Solution: Reprogram the control unit software.

Autocar Recalls

  • Vehicles:

    • 2016-2023 ACX (Xpeditor).

    • 2021-2023 DC (Legend).

  • Potential Units Affected: 104.

  • Component: Park brake.

  • Breakdown: The park brake warning light may incorrectly illuminate during an air loss event.

  • Solution: Replace the pressure switch.

  • Vehicles: 2022-2023 ACX (Xpeditor).

  • Potential Units Affected: 1,131.

  • Component: Steering.

  • Breakdown: The steering column shaft pinch bolt may not have been properly secured.

  • Solution: Replace the steering column shaft pinch bolts.

Pacaar Recalls

  • Vehicles:

    • 2021-2024 Kenworth T280, T380.

    • 2020-2024 Peterbilt 548, 536.

    • 2024 Peterbilt 537.

    • 2020-2024 Kenworth T480.

  • Potential Units Affected: 257.

  • Component: Service brakes.

  • Breakdown: The timing of the trailer brake release may be delayed.

  • Solution: Replace the fittings and hoses in the affected valves.

  • Vehicles:

    • 2021-2024 Peterbilt 579.

    • 2021-2024 Peterbilt 567.

  • Potential Units Affected: 1,315.

  • Component: Fuel system.

  • Breakdown: The U-bolts that attach the air tank to the chassis may contact the fuel tank and over time, wear a hole in the tank.

  • Solution: Inspect and trim the U-bolts, and replace the fuel tank.
