How Fleets Are Using Trailer Telematics
Road Ready Becomes Saegic, Launches New Trailer Telematics Gateway
Clarience Technologies is rolling out new hardware and expanding its plans for connecting trailer telematics, maintenance data, and video.

Saegic's new TrackRR Gateway connects trailer tracking and diagnostic data to a cloud platform where fleets can monitor equipment location, tire pressure, and other conditions that may need attention.

Road Ready has a new name, new trailer telematics hardware, and bigger plans for helping fleets keep tabs on their trailers.
The Clarience Technologies company announced on Nov. 4 that Road Ready is becoming Saegic and launching TrackRR Gateway, a next-generation device that goes beyond tracking trailer locations to monitor tires, equipment condition, and other potential problems.
The idea is to give fleets a better picture of what's happening with their trailers — and help them catch problems before they turn into roadside breakdowns or other disruptions.
“The move from Road Ready to Saegic is more than a name change,” said Mike Hagan, president of Saegic, in a virtual press conference. “It reflects how we help fleets use connected data to understand what is happening and decide what to do next.”
The Road Ready name will be phased out as new products adopt the Saegic branding heading into 2027.
What about fleets already using Road Ready products? The company says they'll continue to get support from the same team, with additional resources from a larger digital solutions support organization.
Saegic is working with those customers on their equipment needs through 2027. Over time, the new hardware and platform will replace the previous generation.
More Than Trailer Tracking
The new TrackRR Gateway is intended to be the starting point for a growing list of trailer monitoring capabilities.
It's available in solar-powered and hardwired versions, both designed to install in minutes. The solar version is a compact, single-piece unit. Both include indicator lights that let technicians quickly check whether the device has power, a cellular signal, and GPS connectivity.
The gateway works with dry vans, refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and other equipment.
One of the key features is built-in support for Pressure Systems International's TireView Live technology, which monitors tire pressure and temperature. Fleets also can monitor wheel-end temperatures through PSI's ThermAlert system.
Why does that matter? A slow tire leak or an overheating wheel end can give fleets some warning before a tire failure or other problem strands a trailer on the roadside. With that information, maintenance teams may be able to schedule repairs before a breakdown.
The gateway also uses Bluetooth to connect to other compatible trailer sensors. That could include liftgate status, hubometer mileage, and other equipment information without requiring additional gateway hardware.
And more capabilities are on the way. Saegic plans to add brake health monitoring in 2027, along with other sensors to help fleets keep track of trailer condition and utilization.
Putting Trailer Data to Work
Of course, collecting all that information doesn't do much good if fleet managers can't easily use it.
That's where the Saegic Cloud Platform comes in.
Fleet managers can start with a map showing all their trailers, then zoom in on a particular location or trailer to find out what's going on with it.
Depending on the equipment and connected sensors, they can see tire pressure, automatic tire inflation activity, lighting problems, and whether a trailer is connected to a tractor.
The system also lets fleets set up geofences around locations such as terminals, customer facilities, and maintenance shops.
That can help answer questions beyond simply "Where's my trailer?" For example, how long has it been sitting at a customer's dock? How much time is it spending in the yard? Are certain trailers being used more than others?
Fleets can set up alerts for maintenance or operational problems and generate reports to share with the people who need them.
And they don't necessarily have to log into another system to see the information. Saegic offers application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow trailer data to be brought into a fleet's existing transportation management or maintenance software.
For fleets that don't need all those capabilities, Saegic also offers TrackRR Lite, a lower-cost tracking device introduced earlier this year.
It's aimed at basic location tracking for trailers, chassis, dollies, containers, and other assets. Some customers even use it as a hidden backup tracker.
Both TrackRR Lite and TrackRR Gateway report information to the same cloud platform.

Road Ready's transition to Saegic includes three connected offerings: TrackRR Lite for basic asset tracking, TrackRR Gateway for trailer monitoring and diagnostics, and the Saegic Cloud Platform for bringing that information together. TrackRR Gateway adds capabilities such as tire pressure monitoring, liftgate status, and hubometer mileage.

What's Next for Saegic?
The longer-term plans go beyond tracking trailers and monitoring their components.
As part of Clarience Technologies, Saegic can draw on technology from other companies in the group, including Truck-Lite, Pressure Systems International, Ecco, and Rear View Safety.
That opens the door to connecting lighting systems, tire monitoring, backup alarms, cameras, and other equipment into a more complete picture of what's happening with a trailer.
Saegic also wants to bring more video capabilities into commercial trucking, drawing on experience from other parts of its business that serve school transportation, transit, law enforcement, and other vehicle markets.
Hagan described possibilities such as using rear- and side-view cameras to detect nearby vehicles or pedestrians, monitoring cargo, and identifying suspicious activity around trailers.
Video could also help with driver coaching, accident investigations, and defending against liability claims.
These are part of the company's longer-term plans rather than capabilities available across the new gateway today.
The ultimate goal is to connect more of the information fleets already collect — and some they may not have had access to before — so they can spot problems earlier and spend less time tracking down information.
For Road Ready customers, the transition won't happen overnight. But as Saegic rolls out new hardware and adds more integrations, the company expects fleets to move gradually to the new platform.
