Recall of Eaton Clutch Part Affects Over 20,000 International Trucks

Navistar is recalling over 20,000 International trucks equipped with Eaton ECA heavy-duty truck clutches after it was discovered that an internal component in the clutch assembly may fail, resulting in unintended vehicle movement that could increase the risk of a crash.

Navistar is recalling 20,916 International trucks equipped with Eaton ECA heavy-duty truck clutches after it was discovered that an internal component in the clutch assembly may fail, resulting in unintended vehicle movement that may increase the risk of a crash.

The recall affects nine different International models including certain 2019 International HV MV, 2018-2019 HX, LT, LoneStar, ProStar WorkStar and 2018 TranStar equipped with certain Eaton automated manual transmissions.

An Eaton representative confirmed that the clutch part issue is not isolated to Navistar and will extend to other Truck OEMs as well. Eaton is currently working with each manufacturer to set up further recalls.

The affected Eaton Transmissions were built with feature code 11MHG or 11MGP and any similar vehicles. The transmissions may have an internal component within the clutch assembly that is outside of specification and may fail and cause the vehicle to unexpectedly move.

Navistar is notifying owners and dealers of the recalled vehicles and the fix will require dealers to recalibrate the Transmission Control Module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on Jan. 18, 2019. Owners may also contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. For more information on the recall, click here
