The game plan by the Teamsters Union, when it comes to organizing truck drivers serving the nation’s ports, is more diverse that it was just a few years ago, according to a new story from the Journal of Commerce.
It reports despite losing a five-year battle to try and organize drivers at the Port of Los Angeles, through the port’s clean trucks plan, the union is working to support legislation on the federal and state levels, to make it easier for port truckers, who are mostly classified as independent contractors, to join a union.
