Import Freight Traffic Expected to be Slow in Summer, Pick up in Fall
Summer typically marks the doldrums of the import freight season, and this one will likely be no exception, but things are expected to pick up big time in the fall, according to the new Port Trucker forecast from the National Retail Federation.
Summer typically marks the doldrums of the import freight season, and this one will likely be no exception, but things are expected to pickup big time in the fall.
The new Port Trucker forecast from the National Retail Federation projects a 1.1% annual gain in activity this month and a 1.7% pickup next month.
However, as summer ends and autumn comes in, things are expected to get into higher gear with the expectation for a 2.4% increase for September and a 9.1% jump in October.
For the first six months of the year, import freight activity was 1.2% higher than the level during the first half of 2012.
The report notes increases that are expected this year could be even greater depending on what economic measures come out of Capitol Hill, with federal budget cuts this year already having a dampening effect.
