IKEA Distribution Services North America and third-party logistics company National Retail Systems have launched a zero-emissions electric drayage operation in Los Angeles.
The electric drayage tractors, called ElecTrucks, are battery-electric and have an operating range of up to 100 miles. To begin, NRS will pull IKEA containers from the Port of Los Angeles to the yard using these electric drayage tractors. The vehicles have the capacity to handle round trips from the NRS yard to any of the IKEA stores in the Los Angeles market, according to NRS.

Moving forward, the program could potentially allow zero-emission transport of IKEA containers from the port to local stores.
NRS has made infrastructure updates to accommodate the ElecTruck by building energy charging stations, the company says.
The ElecTruck is a Navistar International Class 8 truck converted to use battery-electric propulsion system by TransPower.

“We are excited to work with IKEA in rolling out zero emissions electric drayage trucks in Los Angeles, and hope that the operation is a success,” said Raymond Wisniewski, COO and President of National Retail Systems, Inc. “I look forward to expanding our green technology, and reducing our carbon footprint.”
Volvo says advances in combustion and aftertreatment helped its new EPA 2027 D13 engine avoid the fuel-economy penalties many once expected from tighter NOx emissions limits.
Tesla’s Semi chief at ACT Expo outlined production growth, lower-cost models, charging expansion, and why the company believes fleets are leaving money on the table by waiting on electric trucks.
A new report from the Electrification Coalition outlines key barriers slowing electric truck charging deployment and offers policy solutions to accelerate infrastructure growth.
Westport and Volvo are demonstrating a 500-hp truck with diesel-like efficiency — one that also offers what Westport says is a better pathway to using hydrogen fuel in trucks.
Relying on diesel alone exposes fleets to fuel price volatility. Here’s why diversification with electric, natural gas, and renewable fuels can reduce risk.
Range Energy said its production-ready eTrailer system proved it can boost stability, safety, and efficiency in sub-zero winter conditions as the company moves toward scaled deployment.
Watch to learn how Deflecktor's new wheel cover design is taking a simpler approach to aerodynamics, with an eye toward making it more practical for both trucks and trailers.
Aerodynamic wheel covers can deliver small but meaningful fuel-economy gains for fleets, and Deflecktor says its latest design aims to make the technology easier and more affordable to deploy.
