The Loop 610 bridge across the Houston Ship Channel will be closed for repairs from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1.

According to The Houston Chronicle, a freighter's cargo boom hit the bridge just before Christmas. Three of five lanes have been closed because of a gaping hole in the northbound bridge deck.
The closing will be a major headache for truckers carrying cargo to and from the Port of Houston. During the repairs, the port will extend the hours at the gates leading into the complex.
The bridge, also known as the Sidney Sherman Bridge, will be closed at the Clinton exit southbound and Texas 225 northbound. Officials are recommending several alternate routes through the area: the Gulf Freeway, the Fred Hartman Bridge from LaPorte to Baytown on Texas 146, U.S. 90A-Wayside, Beltway 8 East and Spur 330.
