Iowa is one of a growing number of states that looking at changing its top interstate speed limits, but the bill is already on a collision course with some lawmakers.
At the start of this year's 2001 session, a measure was introduced to increase the top interstate speed limit from 65 mph to 70.
Supporters of the measure say Iowa should join most of the neighboring states and raise the limit, but critics of the plan say people are already driving well above the current limit and the plan would only encourage them to driver faster.
Previous attempts to raise the state's top speed limit have failed.
Several other states are also considering changing their top interstate speed limits, with plans ranging from lowering it statewide to just certain areas of congested interstates to implementing different speed limits for cars and trucks.
