After failing to get the Canadian Trucking Alliance to support a reduced fuel tax across the country, the Alberta Trucking Assocation is appealing to the Alberta Business Tax Reform Commission to give truckers a break from high fuel prices.

According to the Edmonton Sun, the ATA has asked the ABTRC, a group of non-government officials, for a reduction in the corporate business tax, a reduction in the provincial fuel tax and for the elimination of government programs that tax input components and costs to the trucking business.
ATA officials said the industry is also seeking the elimination of the off-road fuel tax rebate system, a program where fuels used for off-road purposes are taxed, and then the trucking company must keep track of it and fill out paperwork to get a rebate.
The committee is due to report to the government in September.
