TireStamp has launched a trailer version of its TireVigil, a hardware/software solution that convert hot tire pressures to cold inflation pressure, analyzes the data and then stores it.

An alerting system and a wealth of invaluable reports, charts and graphs that monitor, measure, and manage tires has been created to help fleets manage their tire maintenance while avoiding information overload. TireStamp's products go far beyond tire pressure monitoring by mission critical data whether it be the driver, fleet or technician.
TireVigil is hardware agnostic, bridging tire pressure monitoring sensors with telematics devices that have GPS capability. The combination then sends tire and mileage data via wireless link to TireVigil servers. Analyzing the data for fleet-established severity alerts and daily reports, the system reports to anyone the fleet designates.
The products are designed to work with any tire sensor as long as it provides temperature as well as pressure data and any wireless based telematics system.
TireStamp began marketing TireVigil Pro in 2006 for single-unit vehicles. Now the company has launched TireVigil InTow which is designed to work with trailer tracking telematics systems. It monitors trailer tires whether the trailer is connected to the tractor or whether it is dropped in a yard for long periods of time.
When the trailer is hooked to tractor power, TireVigil InTow works just like TireVigil Pro and transmits tire pressure and temperature and vehicle mileage data every hour back to the TireVigil server. InTow also includes a battery pack for when the trailer is unhooked. Then to conserve battery power, the system shuts down and goes into a "sleep state," but is programmed to wake up at a fleet pre-determined interval to detect a flat tire. Once this condition is acknowledged by the TireVigil server, an e-mail alert is sent to the fleet
The benefit of this is when a trailer is dropped for long periods of time; it advises the fleet that the unit has a flat tire before a tractor is dispatched to collect it. The fleet can then arrange for tire service at the trailer's location, eliminating driver delay time and lost productivity while the driver waits for service or a ruined tire and an emergency road call if the driver takes off dragging a flat tire.
When trailers are en-route, the fleet gets total visibility of its trailer tires and is advised when tires begin to have problems. The fleet can take action and ensure its trailers don't leave the yard until their tires are properly maintained or can advise the driver to stop and have the tires inflated and repaired as necessary.
Studies have concluded that trailer tires are the worst maintained tires with only 38% being within +/- 5 psi of their target pressure at any time and 25 percent of trailer dual tires having mismatched air pressures greater than 5 psi. Confirming the poor trailer tire maintenance, tire debris studies have confirmed that over 70 percent of the tires that fail on the road are from trailers.
TireVigil InTow not only notifies fleets when drops in the cold inflation pressure occur but also when tires are experiencing high temperatures. These situations may be due to a separation within the tire or low pressure, but they may also be due to a bearing failure or a brake problem. For fleets that outsource their tire maintenance, TireVigil provides proof that service work was required and whether it was properly done. Fleets can use TireVigil's management function to conduct a complete fleet tire survey with a click of a mouse at any time. TireVigil can also produce casing management reports that allow fleets to determine whether their tire management policies are being followed.
TireVigil InTow directly addresses the increasing cost of tire maintenance, roadside delays and fuel by giving fleet operator's total control over tire maintenance and tire management.
