Republican Sen. Jim Hammond introduced the measure in the Senate Transportation Committee on Tuesday. The measure says that increasing the speed limit for trucks will boost safety because it will result in less frequent passing.
Sen. Tim Corder will not oppose the measure but says the issue runs deeper than speed. Corder says raising the speed limit means owner-operator trucks will likely drive 80 mph to maximize miles and pay. He also points out that owners of big fleets choose slower speeds anyway to maximize fuel efficiency.
