The Old Dominion Tampa Service Center hosted the first of seven stops on the 2011 Old Dominion Truck Tour. Each stop is a day-long event aimed at celebrating the company's history and vision for the future with customers, employees and communities.
The festivities featured food, games, outdoor activities and tours of the service center. Guests also learned about Old Dominion's history through interactive displays, historical artifacts and customized models, all housed in a custom-built rolling museum.
"This year has been a great one for Old Dominion. We've maintained our high on-time delivery rate and low claims ratio and experienced an increase in shipments and tonnage," said Chip Overbey, senior vice president of marketing, pricing and strategic development for Old Dominion. "This year's truck tour is just a small way of saying thank you to the many people who helped us keep our promises throughout the years."
The tour was developed in 2009 to commemorate the company's 75th anniversary and re-launched in 2010 with 16 stops in 13 states. Following the Tampa stop, the 2011 Old Dominion Truck Tour will stop May 5 in Greensboro, N.C.; then on to Long Island, N.Y.; Nashville, Tenn.; St. Louis, Mo.; and Las Vegas. The tour will conclude on Nov. 15 in Atlanta.
