At Waste Expo in Las Vegas on May 7, Mack Trucks announced the expansion of its Mack Granite Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) model line.
Mack Trucks Expands Waste Industry Powertrain Options
At Waste Expo 2025, Mack introduced a new, lighter-weight Mack Granite configuration for waste and refuse applications.

The Mack Granite can now be spec'd with the Allison 3000 Series transmission paired with the Cummins L9N natural gas engine.

These trucks will now be offered with the Allison 3000 Series transmission option paired with the Cummins L9N natural gas engine.
In a press release, Mack officials said the new spec package would provide waste customers with a cost-effective alternative when maximum gross vehicle weight ratings aren't required.
Greater Flexibility in Waste Applications
“This expanded powertrain option gives our customers more flexibility to optimize their trucks specifically for lighter duty waste applications,” said Jonathan Randall, president, Mack Trucks North America. “By offering the Allison 3000 paired with the L9N, we're delivering a solution that reduces acquisition costs while maintaining the reliability and performance Mack customers expect, particularly for light-duty roll-off applications where a higher GVWR isn't necessary.”
According to Randall, the Allison 3000 Series transmission, when paired with the Cummins L9N, provides a lighter-weight, lower-cost option compared to the Allison 4500 configuration.
Mack said this pairing is ideal for operators looking to balance performance with cost-efficiency in applications that don't require the higher gross vehicle weight rating.
The Cummins L9N natural gas engine delivers 320 horsepower and 1,000 ft.-lb. of torque while offering reduced emissions through its CNG power system.
The engine is certified to the California Air Resources Board and EPA's Optional Low NOx emissions standard.
