To make Walmart a more enticing company to work for, the company launched a 12-week program to help associates earn their commercial driver’s license and become full-fledged private fleet drivers.
Walmart’s supply chain associates in the Dallas, and Dover, Delaware, areas can join the private fleet program. They are matched with established private fleet drivers, now given the title of “certified driver trainer.” After completing specialized training in the Walmart academies, those trainers began working with trainees – teaching written material and overseeing driving.
At the end of the classroom portion of the training, associates graduate with their CDL through Walmart’s Live Better U program, months of real-world experience under trained instructors, and a dedicated mentor to help them smoothly transition into their new role.
Meanwhile, Walmart’s approximately 12,000 drivers can now make up to $110,000 in their first year with the company thanks to recent pay raises. Those who have been with Walmart longer can earn more, based on factors like tenure and location.
