Volvo Trucks North America Inc. announced late last week that Yellow Transportation Inc. has ordered 154 Volvo VNM daycab tractors, for delivery in the first quarter of 2003.
Yellow will take delivery of the new Volvo trucks through its long-time dealer, Westfall Volvo and GMC Truck, Kansas City, Mo.
Yellow's new Volvo VNMs are a mix of single- and tandem-axle tractors. Each is powered by Volvo VED12 engine. The VED12 complies with the EPA'02 emissions standards, which went into effect Oct. 1.
"Yellow Transportation has been a valued customer of Volvo since 1988 and we are very pleased to continue the great relationship between our two companies with our new generation of products," said Scott Kress, Volvo Trucks vice president of sales. "We are especially pleased that Yellow will now be using our Volvo engines, as well as our trucks. This is a strong vote of confidence in Volvo Trucks' new products."
"For 78 years, our company has focused on customer service and quality, so we hold our trucks to very high standards in all areas," said Mark Lindahl, manager, equipment procurement for Yellow Transportation. "The new VN will carry on that tradition for us. The VN has been very popular with our drivers for its smooth, comfortable ride, its safety and its reliability."
As the largest subsidiary of Yellow Corp., Overland Park, Kan., Yellow Transportation Inc., is one of the largest commercial transportation providers in the United States.
Volvo Trucks North America is a member of the Volvo Group, a publicly held company headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden. With annual sales of about $18 billion, Volvo's business areas include heavy trucks, buses, construction equipment, marine and industrial drive systems, aerospace and financial services.
