Volvo Trucks North America and the United Auto Workers union reached a tentative agreement, ending the strike against Volvo’s New River Valley truck assembly operations in Dublin, Virginia.

Early in the morning on April 30, the company announced it had reached tentative agreement on the terms of a new five-year contract that would cover approximately 2,900 employees at the NRV plant.

Production will resume on Monday, May 3, 2021.

Production stopped April 17 as the UAW members went on strike. A five-year collective bargaining agreement expired in mid-March. The walkout happened after the expiration of a 30-day extension. It was the first such strike for Volvo since 2008.

Negotiations resumed on April 26.

“UAW members showed incredible solidarity on the picket lines and have achieved significant gains toward fair pay, benefits and job security protections,” said UAW Secretary-Treasurer and Director of the UAW Heavy Truck Department, Ray Curry, in an announcement on the union’s website.

Further comment on the proposed agreement is being withheld pending ratification by the members of UAW Local #2069. Ratification meetings are being scheduled by the UAW.
