Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks announced EV-Certified dealer partnerships with several locations across the country, some locations being the first in their state.

Four more truck dealer locations have been certified to sell and service Volvo and Mack brand battery-electric trucks, with locations added in Indiana, New Jersey, Ohio, and Oregon.

To become EV-certified, dealers are required to meet numerous stringent safety, infrastructure, charging, tooling, and training requirements. The designation ensures the dealer sales teams are fully trained to consult with fleets that are considering investing in any of the Volvo and Mack brand electric offerings.

“Our goal of developing a widespread electromobility ecosystem of support for our battery-electric trucks is happening at an incredible rate," said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, in a statement.

Volvo EV-certified dealers are able to service and support the Volvo VNR Electric, while Mack EV-certified dealers are able to service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle.

First EV-Certified Truck Dealer in Indiana

General Truck Sales has completed the necessary training and facility upgrades to earn the Volvo Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle Dealer designation at two of its flagship locations — Toledo, Ohio, and Pendleton, Indiana — both of which are positioned near major interstates to service fleet customers throughout the Midwest. General Truck Sales’ Pendleton dealership is the first official Volvo Trucks Certified EV Dealer in Indiana, and its Toledo dealership is now the second in Ohio.

General Truck Sales will now be able to service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle, at its Toledo, Ohio location.

The dealer’s service team has two technicians at each location that have been fully trained and equipped to safely perform battery-electric truck maintenance and repairs for trucks in operation. General Truck Sales also has a 50kW electric vehicle charger at each location with multiple outlets to provide flexibility in charging locations.

In addition, General Truck Sales is Mack’s first Ohio location to be a certified EV Dealer for Mack.

“We are excited to start the new year adding another new state into our expanding network of certified EV dealerships, as well as to see the trend continue of our dealer partners certifying more than one location at a time,” Voorhoeve said.

“We see the freight transportation industry’s acceleration towards alternative fuel and zero-emissions vehicles and are excited to help Midwestern fleets as they move towards the future of heavy-duty transport," said Steve Bassett, president, General Truck Sales. "Our more progressive customers see the emerging need and value of reducing their carbon footprint and are getting increased requests from the shippers they work for to make the transition to zero-tailpipe-emission battery-electric trucks.”

Bergey's New Jersey Location EV Certified

Bergey’s Truck Centers is now the second Volvo Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle Dealer in New Jersey. The dealership’s Trenton, New Jersey, location is the first of its 17 locations to complete the training and facility upgrades for Volvo, and the first dealer in the state to be EV certified for Mack.

“Fleets in the dense urban regions along the East Coast of the U.S. are increasingly recognizing that the battery-electric Volvo VNR Electric is ideally suited for their local and regional distribution routes,” Voorhoeve said.

Bergey’s in Trenton will now be able to service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle and is the first Mack dealer in New Jersey to achieve EV certification status.

Sales representatives at Bergey’s Truck Centers’ Trenton location have been trained to help customers identify and apply for public funding on the federal, state, and local levels to offset purchase costs. The dealership group is prioritizing the certification process for areas with the most customer demand and available incentives, and currently has four other locations working on the rigorous certification process. Bergey’s has 17 dealerships in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, as well as two additional locations in New Jersey.

“We continue to see Mack dealers commit to EV certification, and it’s no surprise that Bergey’s Truck Center has made the required investment to achieve certification and help move the industry toward zero emissions,” said Jonathan Randall, president of Mack Trucks North America.

Portland TEC Location First Certified Mack/Volvo EV Dealer in Oregon

Volvo's largest West Coast dealer group, TEC Equipment, has completed the Volvo Trucks Certified Electric Vehicle Dealership training program at its fourth location in Portland, Oregon.

The Portland location also has been EV-certified to service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle and is the first Mack dealer in Oregon to achieve EV certification status. It's Oregon’s first dealership to achieve either the Volvo or Mack certification.

Voorhoeve noted that TEC Equipment was the first Volvo Trucks Certified EV Dealership in the nation and now supports more than a dozen fleets in maintaining their Volvo VNR Electrics.
