This move marks the second TEC dealership to achieve the designation in support of the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle and Volvo VNR Electric. Earlier this year, TEC’s Fontana, California, site was the first dealer to be a Certified Electric Vehicle Dealer.

To be EV-certified, dealerships must meet numerous safety, charging, infrastructure, tooling and training requirements. Updating the facility is also required. TEC met frequently with the Volvo and Mack team during the process to become a certified EV dealer to ensure their dealership met all the standards of the program for first the Fontana site and then the La Mirada location.

The La Mirada site offers a 15-service bay gas shop with two dedicated electric vehicle service bays and the main dealer location with 25 bays. The 59,000-square foot dealership offers 108,000 parts numbers onsite. TEC La Mirada has 115 employees, 25 technicians, 13 master technicians, two EV-certified technicians and two more in the process of being EV certified.

The TEC Equipment La Mirada sales team is also trained to consult with customers on how electric trucks fit in their operation and to select the right configuration based on their fleet’s transport needs.

“EV certification sends a message – to our customers, the industry and even our employees – that TEC is on the forefront of new products and technologies, ready to help our customers succeed through the exciting transition to zero-emission electric transportation,” said Chris Thompson, TEC Equipment dealer principal, in a press release.

TEC Equipment’s two Southern California dealerships are well located to service fleet operators involved in local and regional goods movement, particularly around the ports — an ideal application for the Volvo VNR Electric Class 8 model, Volvo officials said in a press release.

“TEC Equipment didn't want to wait for EVs to gradually catch on before making a move; we wanted to be at the forefront with our customers and help lead the transition,” said David Thompson, founder and CEO of TEC Equipment. “Our La Mirada and Fontana dealerships are ideally located to support Southern California’s large freight transport industry in deploying zero-tailpipe emission trucks. We look forward to continuing to expand our expertise to our other dealerships on the West Coast through Volvo Trucks EV Certified Dealership training programs.”
