The U.S. Producer Price Index fell 0.1 percent in April, following an increase of 0.7 percent in March
, according to Department of Labor statistics. The figures are seasonally adjusted.
The department attributed April's drop to lower prices for energy goods, which were down 0.8 percent. In addition, the index for finished consumer foods fell 0.2 percent.
Meanwhile, producer prices for the net output of transportation and warehousing industries rose 0.8 percent, the second straight increase. While over 40 percent of the increase is due to higher prices received by air transportation, the trucking and deep sea freight industries also received higher prices during the month.
