The second installment of a new safety webinar series from the editors of Heavy Duty Trucking will explore why having safe drivers is so important, and how fleets can implement practices that maintain a driver’s commitment to a fleet’s safety mission.

Having a fleet of safe drivers starts with your hiring criteria, but just hiring safe drivers doesn’t mean you can just onboard-‘em and forget-‘em. Drivers need ongoing coaching, training, incentive programs, appreciation, and more – something that became even harder during the pandemic.

This webinar will explore topics such as getting buy-in from drivers for safety technology, making drivers a vital part of your company’s culture of safety, driver scorecards and incentives, and driver training.

Register for “Creating Safer Drivers,” to be held Tuesday, August 3, at 2 p.m. eastern time/11 a.m. Pacific time.

This webinar, the second in a “Safety First” series of three webinars planned and moderated by HDT editors, will feature:

  • A senior research associate in the commercial vehicle space shares his research, which translate into practices that improve driver behavior and organizational safety through technology, education and training.

  • A former HDT Truck Fleet Innovator will explain how his company trains drivers upon orientation, and then continues to reward them for maintaining those safety standards well into their careers.

The webinar is sponsored by Drivewyze, Netradyne, and Whip Around.

The Driver Safety Panel

HDT Managing Editor Vesna Brajkovic will moderate a panel discussion with:

Chris Woody, CDS, is director of safety at M&W Logistics Group in Nashville, Tennessee, and was a 2020 HDT Truck Fleet Innovator. He worked his way up after starting his career in trucking a decade ago as a payroll clerk at M&W. He has a passion for protecting the lives of not only M&W drivers, but all drivers who share our roadways. Throughout his time in leadership, M&W has won numerous fleet safety awards from the American Trucking Associations, Tennessee Trucking Association, and Truckload Carriers Association. Woody currently serves as secretary of the Tennessee Trucking Association Safety Management Council Steering Committee, is a member of the ATA Safety Management Council, and serves on the TCA Highway Policy Committee. He’s a nominee for the TTA’s Hugh Galbreath Safety Professional of the Year.

Matt Camden, is a senior research associate at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute’s division of freight, transit, and heavy vehicle safety. Camden has dedicated the past 13 years to solving complex challenges to prevent vehicle crashes and their resulting injuries and fatalities. In his role, Camden’s focus is conducting applied driving research and translating that research to practice making all drivers healthier and safer. This includes investigating systems-level solutions to improve driver behavior and organizational safety culture using safety technologies, and education and training. While much of his research focuses on commercial motor vehicle drivers, his research portfolio also encompasses all types of occupational drivers and the individuals that share the road with them.
