Officials with Tri-State Motor Transit, Joplin, Mo., are awaiting the outcome of an appeal they filed with the Department of Defense over a suspension issued against the carrier from hauling certain military munitions.

The DOD issued the temporary suspension of authority following two accidents involving military cargo, which happened less than 24 hours apart earlier this month.
Tri-State spokesman Jim Miller said the company hoped to receive the ruling on the suspension this week, but noted the DOD has not given the carrier any specific time frame as to when it would rule. Miller said the suspension has not shut down all of its hauls for the military.
Tri-State is a subsidiary of the one-time trucking company giant Trism, based in Georgia. Earlier this year Trism dropped its general freight operations, sold off its logistics business and shut down its specialized hauling operation as well as other downsizing measures.
