Eagle Global Logistics has been awarded a $33 million contract to handle selected military freight in three southeastern states.
Within 90 days, the Houston-based firm will begin managing most outbound freight shipments from military installations in Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The contract runs from July 1, 2001, to June 30, 2002, with two one-year renewable terms.
The Defense Dept. currently moves its freight on a global basis via transportation offices at different installations but recently announced a pilot program to test the use of a third-party logistics provider. The Military Traffic Management Command received bids from 12 companies.
