The cloud-based software is used by both shippers and 3PLs to lock in contract rates and manage bid events automatically from one portal. This new offering allows shippers and 3PLs to bid out freight to a wide array of carriers, according to the company.
By automating the bid processes, users can widen the scope of each sourcing event since they are saving time by not having to actively host it. Shippers are also able to increase provider options, leading to more competitive rates and increased sourcing flexibility. SMC³ added this functionality at the request of users, many of which became beta testers for the software.
“With its robust, efficient communication and analysis protocols, BidSense achieves significant savings measured not just in dollars, but also in terms of transportation optimization,” said Brian Thompson, SMC³’s chief commercial officer.
The company’s truckload expansion mirrors the increased use of technology in the industry and changes in how these contracts are negotiated.
“This move has been driven by our customers — it’s not SMC3 running out of things to do in LTL,” said Thompson in a recent interview with Journal of Commerce.
