The Port of San Diego has signed a 20-year contract with Dole to relocate its West Coast container business to the port.

The port will build a $23.6 million refrigerated container facility, and Dole will become the port's anchor tenant at its 10th Avenue Marine Terminal. The operation will create 85 truck driving jobs.
Dole, the world's largest producer of fresh fruit and vegetables, will bring about 40,000 refrigerated containers to the port each year from Latin America, filled mostly with bananas.
Dole is transferring the business from its current location at the Port of Los Angeles for better accommodations and more control of its day-to-day operations. Other ports handling Dole refrigerated containers include Freeport, Texas; Wilmington, Del.; Port Everglades, Fla.; and Gulfport, Miss.
