A story from north of the border claims what some in trucking have long thought was true: That truck inspectors in some parts have quotas.
The website of the Canadian trucking magazine Today’s Trucking reports it has obtained documents from Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation that it says raise concerns about the accuracy of out-of-service rates. The documents details performance standards for truck inspectors, which include a mandate to conduct a minimum number of inspections – and at least 20% must have one or more violations.
When contacted about this, a spokesman for the MTO did not deny what the magazine had discovered.
