The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will convert exit numbers on interstates throughout the state from a sequential system to a mileage-based system beginning this spring.
Nearly every interchange on the 1,250 miles of interstate maintained by PennDOT will be converted to a mileage-based system – bringing Pennsylvania in line with much of the nation, said PennDOT Secretary Bradley L. Mallory.
"With mileage-based exits, motorists will know how far they traveled and how much further they have to go," he said.
Mallory said a dual-numbering system will be in place for at least the next two years to aid in the transition to the new system.
