Pennsylvania legislators are pushing to widen Interstate 81 from Nanticoke to Clarks Summit.

A project to widen the highway from four to six lanes could begin within the next five to 10 years, costing an estimated $400 million, according to the Wilkes-Barre Times Leader.
The project is supported by Nanticoke Rep. John Yudichak, who says additional support is there across party and county lines. He told the paper that at times, I-81 is bumper to bumper with traffic.
In the meantime, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Dave Krisanda told the paper that the Pennsylvania Turnpike is one option to ease traffic flow. He said the DOT is going to try to divert some of I-81's traffic to the turnpike, perhaps as many as 10,000 vehicles.
