Nov. 4 – Tolls on the Ohio Turnpike will increase as planned Jan. 1, despite a comment by one turnpike official in February that the turnpike commission was looking for ways to avoid the increase.
Trucks will pay $13.25 to travel the turnpike between Interchange 71 and Interchange 142, up $1.10 from current rates and a $6 increase from 1995. Officials say the extra money will help pay for a $1.2 billion modernization program that includes widening 160 miles of the road to three lanes, replacing 16 service plazas and renovating interchanges.
A public hearing about the increase will be held. Nov. 16 in Middleburg Heights, a Cleveland suburb. The Ohio Trucking Assn. says it plans to be there to speak out against the increase.
