Interstate 44 in south central Missouri near St. Robert is closed as bridge repairs are made following a fatal truck wreck.
Stoil Nakov of La Grange, IL, died late Wednesday night after his eastbound rig ran off the left side of the highway and crashed into the support of a bridge overpass. Nakov was ejected from the truck, which caught fire.
The overpass was severely damaged. The highway was closed in both directions as work began to repair the bridge. Detours were set up, but the patrol warned drivers to expect delays.
Eastbound traffic must get off the highway at exit 145 and westbound traffic must get off at exit 153.
A state Department of Transportation spokesperson said they hoped to have the highway reopened by late Friday night.
