UPS has announced the retirement of Chris Mahoney, senior vice president of global transportation and a member of the company’s management committee.

John McDevitt has been named to replace Mahoney. McDevitt is currently senior vice president of strategic integration and also a member of the UPS management committee.
In his new position, McDevitt, 46, will oversee UPS’s global intermodal transportation network, which includes the world’s 11th largest airline, a surface delivery fleet of more than 150,000 vehicles and rail and other distribution services. He also will be responsible for labor relations.
Mahoney, 57, is retiring after a 37-year career that began in 1968 when he joined UPS as a part-time package handler while attending Stonehill College. He subsequently received an MBA in finance from Suffolk University.
While head of global transportation, Mahoney oversaw the development of an international air network. He led a network optimization program to enhance the speed of the UPS ground network and headed negotiations that produced a new contract for the company’s drivers and other hourly employees in 2002.
Like Mahoney, McDevitt began his career as a part-time employee while attending Rutgers University in 1976. He held senior positions in operations, labor relations and corporate compliance prior to being named vice president of air operations in 2000.
