The recall is on a large scale, potentially affecting 18,665 vehicles. The recall includes International WorkStar, DuraStar, LoneStar, LT, ProStar, RH and IC Bus HC, 2018, International TranStar, International HV, and MV trucks and transit buses.
The issue is with the front driver and passenger seat belt anchor D-ring bolt, which could break during a crash and cause the seat occupant to not be restrained properly, increasing injury risk. While the recall includes many vehicles, in the letter to vehicle owners Navistar said that less than 1% of the recalled vehicles could have the defect.
The repair is simple, requiring an inspection of the seat belt assembly and shoulder anchor point D-ring bolt. Suspect D-Rings are then replaced. The process is completed at the dealership in 30 minutes to an hour, free of charge.
Navistar sent out recall notices to customers on May 23.
