Idle Free Systems (IFS) is recalling 4,771 electric auxiliary power units (part number BA600) because their metal housings may have mounting points at risk for cracking or tearing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
Additionally, the mounting bolts of the power units may loosen or possibly fail, NHTSA said. These conditions could lead to the power unit detaching from the truck, creating a road hazard.
The units in question were manufactured from Oct. 1, 2009, to April 30 of this year.
IFS dealers will install a frame rail upgrade kit and also increase the mounting bolts torque, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin this month. Owners can reach IFS customer service at (920) 206-9333.
