Jan. 4 – A stretch of Interstate 75 near downtown Detroit could be closed for construction as early as next month, reports the Associated Press. The 3.1-mile segment carries about 120,000 vehicles a day.
The state plans to rebuilt the 25-year-old section between I-96 on the west and Gratiot on the east. The project is estimated to cost about $60 million.
“Traffic problems will be especially difficult at the start,” Michigan DOT spokesman Gary Naeyaert told the Detroit Free Press. Southbound traffic will detour onto the Davidson, Lodge and I-94. Northbound traffic will take I-96 to I-94.
Although original reports were that the stretch would be closed for about a year, starting on it next month could allow it to be reopened by November.
