HDT’s second webinar in a series helping fleets navigate the COVID-19 pandemic will cover equipment- and technology-related aspects of what they need to know to keep working safely and efficiently, including truck cleaning/sanitizing, how fleets can use technology, and working with truck dealers.

Trucks, Technology, & the Covid-19 Pandemic: What Fleets Need to Know” will be held Tuesday, April 14, at 2 p.m. eastern time. Moderated by HDT Editor in Chief Deborah Lockridge, it will cover topics related to truck equipment, maintenance, and technology, such as:

  • How to clean and sanitize trucks to protect against the novel coronavirus

  • Optimizing uptime while keeping technicians safe and healthy

  • How dealers are working with customers in this time of economic uncertainty

Danny Lilley, vice president of fleet systems and technology at Werner Enterprises, will discuss ways his company is using technology to communicate with drivers, maximize uptime, re-route trucks to deal with fast-changing freight demands, allow people to work at home, and so forth.

Prior to joining Werner, Lilley spent more than 11 years at Swift Transportation in various roles, most recently as vice president of technology and digital Transformation. He was recently named an HDT 2020 Truck Fleet Innovator.

Jim Park, equipment editor, Heavy Duty Trucking, will offer insights into his recent reporting on cleaning and sanitizing truck cabs to protect drivers from the novel coronavirus, including recommended practices from the ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council. An award-winning trucking journalist, former truck driver, and member of the ATA’s Technology & Maintenance Council, Park has been writing for HDT since 2008 on equipment, drivers, and other topics.

Steve Bassett, dealer principal, General Truck Sales, will offer information on what truck dealers are doing to keep both technicians and customers safe while trucks are in the shop, plus options for buying trucks during this time of economic uncertainty. Bassett is a second-generation truck dealer who sells Isuzu, Hino, Mack and Volvo trucks, is the current chairman of the American Truck Dealers association, which has launched a coronavirus information hub for dealers.
