The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the comment period on a proposed negotiated rulemaking concerning intermodal container chassis and trailer maintenance.

Last November, the agency announced that it is studying the feasibility of using the "Reg Neg" process to develop a rulemaking that would assign responsibility for the maintenance of intermodal highway equipment. Comments were due in February but the American Assn. of Railroads asked for an extension in order to pursue a private initiative being developed by the Intermodal Assn. of North America and the Ocean Carrier Equipment Management Assn.
Comments are now due by April 10.
