Dec. 31 – Three days of rain and melted snow in Oregon and Washington blocked roads with floods and mudslides this week.

Flood waters receded Tuesday in Tillamook on the Oregon coast, and workers cleared away mudslide debris from U.S. Highway 101 as shallow waters still flowed over the road, according to published reports. Dairy farmer Don Josi worked all night shoveling mud from his road so a milk truck could get through. Landslides buried state highways 34 and 6 east of Tillamook Tuesday.
“Just as soon as we get one slide cleared, it seems like another one happens,” Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Dave Davis told the San Jose Mercury News.
It was the worst flooding to hit the region since February 1996, but no lives were lost.
