The Women In Trucking association announced the creation of the “Distinguished Woman in Logistics” award, sponsored by transportation software provider TMW Systems. The association, established to promote the accomplishments of women employed in the trucking industry, with the goals of minimizing obstacles to full participation and celebrating career achievement for women in the field, has expanded its recognition program to highlight leaders in the closely related field of logistics.

WIT was established in 2007 by Ellen Voie, a trucking industry veteran with a passion to expand and promote opportunities for women both as drivers and business people within the dynamic transportation services field.

Building on the success of its “Influential Woman in Trucking” award program sponsored for the past four years by Navistar International, and its annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel,” WIT joined with TMW Systems to promote and sponsor the new recognition program. The award was created to highlight and honor notable women active in the broader field of logistics, a discipline that overlaps and strongly influences the trucking industry in North America.

“Logistics” has been defined as that part of the supply chain process that plans, implements and controls the efficient flow and storage of goods, services and related information, from the point of origin to the point of consumption, in order to meet the customers’ requirements. The scope of industry participation that would qualify a potential candidate for consideration for this award broadly encompasses high-performing women in the warehousing, traffic and shipping, third-party logistics and supply chain management fields, as well as trucking, rail and maritime cargo operations in North America.

Candidacy guidelines, nomination procedures and forms for the first annual Distinguished Woman in Logistics award can be found at: http://www.TMWSystems.com/LogisticsWomanAward. Nominations may be submitted starting April 10, and the program will close for judging Oct. 31, 2014.

Nominations will be judged and a winner selected by a panel of industry notables from logistics and transportation media, logistics service providers and trade association leadership.

The first annual Distinguished Woman in Logistics award will be presented during the 2015 TIA Conference & Exposition.
