The Federal Highway Administration has released the 2000 edition of Highway Statistics, an annual publication that contains a wide range of information on the nation’s roads and highway users.

“Highway Statistics is a comprehensive report that contains important data on every aspect of America’s highway system,” FHWA Administrator Mary Peters said. “The report is a valuable tool that is widely used by other federal agencies, state and local governments and the private sector.”
The FHWA and its forerunner, the Bureau of Public Roads, have published the report every year since 1945. It contains statistical data on motor fuel, motor vehicles, driver licensing, highway-user taxation, state and local highway finance, highway mileage, federal-aid for highways, select tables and charts from the 1995 Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey, and international data. The data also are used as the principal data in calculating each state’s share of funds under the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century, the legislation that provides federal-aid funds to states.
