New reports circulated on Wednesday suggesting Daimler Trucks is preparing to cut more than 1,000 jobs at its Portland manufacturing facilities.
Additional reports suggest the company is also preparing to offer voluntary severance to about 800 non-production staff at facilities in Germany.
News of the layoffs comes just over a year after the company hired or recalled 1,500 production workers following a protracted post-recession slowdown.
WardsAuto.com reports Daimler's Freightliner brand did well in 2012, leading the industry with 32.9% market share and almost 64,000 trucks sold for a gain of 22.4% over 2011 sales figures.
When asked to comment on the reports, a Daimler Trucks spokesman said the company would provide a full statement on Thursday.
